Durga Puja Pandal to be themed after Suvendu
This year round a Durga Puja committee in Kolkata would set the theme of its Puja marquees after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, depicting his life, times, politics, struggles and journey to the pinnacle.
Conceived by the Hindu Mahasabha, the theme of the Puja is: “Nandigram Theke Nabanna: Bubair Joyjatra” (Nandigram to Nabanna — secretariat — Bubai’s journey to victory) and will showcase the Chief Minister’s political journey. Adhikari is nicknamed Bubai back home at Contai, a small town in East Midnapore.
Hindu Mahasabha State president Chandrachur Goswami said that the pandal would use models, photographs, flex panels, murals, and traditional Bengali patachitra (motifs), adding that the artworks in the marquees would depict Adhikari’s journey of life from his childhood till his being the Chief Minister of the State. It would chronicle his “entry into politics, struggles during various political movements,” Goswami said, adding that a small portrait of the Chief Minister would be used along with a documentary.
“The entire installation is planned as a visual narrative, combining historical references with aesthetic elements,” he said. The Puja will be organised at the Ruby Crossing in South East Kolkata.
“Suvendu Adhikari is special to the people of Bengal because he has brought the region a much desired freedom from the corrupt regime of Mamata Banerjee… he and his father Shishir Adhikari who was also a Union Minister had played a very important role in bringing down the communist regime… without the contribution of the Adhikari family it would not have been possible for Mamata Banerjee to dislodge the Marxists… you all will appreciate his role… his struggle and resistance against Red rule in Nandigram that spread like wild fire in the remaining part of the State… so by that angle he was also responsible for the downfall of the communists in Bengal and restoring the region to its true heritage… it is the least that could have been done to acknowledge his contribution to the State politics,” said another organiser.
