NHPC chief calls for collective green action

With the aim of promoting environmental conservation, sustainable development, and public participation, a grand ‘Van Mahotsav’ was jointly organised on Saturday in the campus of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2, Faridabad, by NHPC Limited and the school management. The event was held under the aegis of the ‘Mission LiFE’ and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0’ campaigns, focusing on the theme “One Child – One Sapling.”
Bhupender Gupta, CMD-NHPC, graced the event as the Chief Guest. The occasion was also attended by Director (Projects) Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Technical) Suprakash Adhikari, Director (Finance & Personnel) Mahesh Kumar Sharma, Chief Patron of the NHPC Mahila Kalyan Samiti Shikha Gupta, Samiti Patrons Soma Adhikari, Rinku Sharma, and Kendriya Vidyalaya Principal Mamta Shekhar, along with other senior NHPC officials, school teachers, and students.
In his keynote address, Bhupender Gupta congratulated the school community on the successful organisation of the programme. He stated that ‘Mission LiFE,’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inspires citizens to make environmental conservation an integral part of their lifestyle. Emphasising that protecting the ecosystem is a shared collective responsibility, he called upon everyone to plant more saplings and pledge to conserve trees. Gupta remarked that instilling a sensitivity towards nature in children is crucial, as these values will shape them into responsible future citizens. He also appreciated the creativity displayed in the environmental artworks and presentations created by the students.
In her address, the school Principal, Mamta Shekhar, stated that the objective of the event was to inspire students to adopt practices related to environmental conservation, sensitivity towards nature, and the core principles of ‘Mission LiFE’. She remarked that “One Child–One Sapling” is not merely a campaign but a collective pledge to ensure a clean, green, and safe future for upcoming generations.
A comprehensive target has been set to plant a total of 2,000 saplings on the school premises as part of the forest festival.
In line with this, approximately 600 saplings were planted during the event, featuring diverse species such as Pilkhan, Ashoka, Indian Willow, and Nirgundi. The remaining 1,400 saplings will be planted in a phased manner over the coming days.
The event featured a variety of cultural and educational activities, including impressive performances by the school’s Cub-Bulbul and Scout & Guide units, a sapling plantation drive, songs, group singing, Bharatanatyam, short plays, group dances, instrumental music performances, student speeches on environmental themes, and a prize distribution ceremony.
