Nepali man critically burnt after climbing Mangala Express roof at Itarsi Railway Station

A Nepali national suffered critical burn injuries after climbing onto the roof of the Mangala Express and coming into contact with a live overhead electric (OHE) wire at Itarsi railway station in Madhya Pradesh. A video of the incident has since surfaced on social media.
According to reports, the man climbed onto the roof of the stationary train when he accidentally touched the high-voltage overhead electric line, triggering a powerful electric arc that left him with severe burn injuries.
Railway staff and bystanders rushed to the spot and rescued the injured man before he was shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.
The incident occurred at the busy Itarsi Junction, one of the country's major railway hubs. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led the man to climb onto the train.
Railway officials have once again urged passengers and the public not to climb atop trains or go near overhead electric equipment, warning that OHE lines carry 25,000 volts of electricity and can cause fatal injuries even without direct contact due to electrical arcing.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, prompting renewed concerns over railway safety and public awareness regarding high-voltage infrastructure.
The matter is under investigation.
