Two earthquakes strike Nepal's mugu district within hours, no casualties reported

Two earthquakes struck northwestern Nepal's Mugu district within a span of less than three hours on Wednesday, September 16, though there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, authorities said.

According to the National Seismological Research Centre, the first tremor, measuring 4.5 in magnitude, was recorded at 1:51 am local time, with its epicentre near Kalai in Mugu district. A second quake, measuring 4.2, struck the same area at 4:28 am.

The tremors were also felt in the neighbouring districts of Dolpa and Jumla, though no damage has been reported from either area so far.

Nepal sits on the collision zone between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates and experiences frequent seismic activity, with Mugu district in particular having recorded several earthquakes in recent years. Authorities said they continue to monitor the region for aftershocks and any signs of structural damage.
