NCW rejects apology of comedians in ‘Rs 370 Biryani’ controversy

Stand-up comedian Pranit More, comedian Madhur Virli and audience member Himanshu Jangra appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) in connection with the controversy surrounding the viral “Rs 370 biryani” remark made during a comedy show in Gurugram.
According to sources, all 3 apologised during the hearing, but the NCW declined to accept their apology. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar reportedly expressed serious concern over the nature of the remarks and their impact on women's dignity and safety.
The controversy erupted after a crowd-work segment from Pranit More's comedy show went viral online, drawing criticism for allegedly promoting coercive and non-consensual behaviour towards women. The incident led to widespread outrage on social media and legal action against those involved.
Pranit More had earlier issued a public apology on social media, admitting that he exercised poor judgment by allowing and encouraging the conversation during the show. He stated that he regretted giving a platform to the remarks and said he was cooperating with ongoing legal proceedings.
The NCW is examining the matter as part of its efforts to address content that may be perceived as offensive or derogatory towards women. Further action, if any, is expected to depend on the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.
