NCPCR launches probe into alleged child abuse at Bengaluru daycare

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken suo motu cognisance of the alleged physical abuse of children at a daycare centre operating inside the Capgemini campus in Bengaluru's Brookefield area.
The action follows the emergence of disturbing videos that allegedly showed toddlers being physically assaulted, triggering widespread public outrage. A fact-finding team from the Commission has been sent to Bengaluru to investigate the incident.
The inquiry team, led by Senior Technical Expert Paresh Shah, will examine the allegations, interact with local authorities, and assess whether child protection laws were violated. The Commission has sought full cooperation from the Bengaluru district administration during the investigation. Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police have arrested five women employed as caretakers at the daycare and registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act.
The daycare has been temporarily shut down as investigations continue. The NCPCR said it is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and will recommend further action based on its findings. The case has renewed concerns about the safety and monitoring of childcare centres, with calls for stricter oversight to protect young children.
