Members of banned outfit arrested in Pakistan’s Sindh

Three men belonging to banned separatist group Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army were arrested in Pakistan’s Sindh province for killing a civilian during Independence Day celebrations, police said.
According to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the incident occurred on August 12 in Karachi, the capital city of Sindh, when three men opened fire at an Independence Day stall.
“A stall selling national flags and badges was fired at in Defence Housing Authority Phase 2 near Sunset Boulevard at around 11:30 pm,” the CTD said in a statement on Tuesday. It said that the stall owner was seriously wounded in the incident and later succumbed to his injuries.
The individuals involved in the attack were arrested in a joint operation conducted with the federal intelligence agency near Korangi Causeway in the port city, it said. The statement added that the arrested individuals confessed to being tasked with targeting Independence Day stalls in Karachi.
The accused persons received directions from a member of the Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) residing outside Pakistan, identified as Arsalan Shah, the statement said. The interior ministry had banned the SRA in 2020, along with Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz-Aresar Group and Sindhudesh Liberation Army under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
