Maharashtra-CM-Devendra-Fadnavis-Assures-Fast-Track-Trial-in-Pune-Child-Murder-Case

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the state government will seek the death penalty for the accused in the Pune child rape-murder case and ensure that the trial is completed on a fast-track basis.
The statement came after the brutal killing of a four-year-old child in Bhor tehsil of Pune district triggered widespread anger and protests. A 65-year-old man with a criminal background has been arrested in connection with the case.
Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he had spoken twice with the victim’s father and assured the family of full support from the government. He said all efforts would be made to secure capital punishment for the accused.
The Chief Minister added that the investigation would be thorough and legally strong so that no loopholes could be used during trial. He said the government wants to ensure justice in the shortest possible time.
The incident has led to protests in Bhor, where local residents gathered in large numbers demanding strict punishment. Opposition leaders have also criticized the government over the law and order situation in the state.
Responding to the criticism, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said political opponents should also examine their own record while in power.
