Woman allegedly kills husband in Kurukshetra; missing organs puzzle police
A murder in Kurukshetra has taken a disturbing turn after a post-mortem examination found that part of the victim's liver and his right kidney were missing, prompting police to investigate whether the missing organs were connected to the killing.
Rajesh, 40, was allegedly murdered by his wife Vimla Devi at their rented accommodation near Raj Palace on Pehowa Road on Saturday, police said. The woman, who suffered serious injuries after allegedly jumping from the terrace, is currently undergoing treatment.
According to landlord Rinku, he heard the couple shouting at around 5 pm and rushed to the terrace, where he allegedly found Rajesh lying in a pool of blood with a deep wound to his abdomen. He told police that Devi was putting the man's protruding intestines into a plastic bag.
Devi allegedly panicked after seeing the landlord and jumped from the terrace. She suffered serious injuries, including to her spine, and was subsequently admitted to hospital.
Three knives of different sizes were recovered from the scene, police said.
The post-mortem examination has added another unexplained element to the case. Forensic expert Dr Gaurav Kaushik said around half of Rajesh's liver and his right kidney were missing when his body was brought for examination.
A deep incision measuring approximately 37 centimetres was found on the abdomen, with the intestines protruding through the wound, the expert said.
Police are now trying to determine where the missing organs went and whether their disappearance occurred during the attack or is otherwise linked to the circumstances of Rajesh's death.
Rajesh, a resident of Dhampur village in Uttar Pradesh, had been living at the rented accommodation with Devi for about a year. He worked as a water-supply employee with a company.
The couple had been married for several years but had no children. Their landlord claimed Devi was involved in ‘jhaad-phoonk’, or traditional healing and exorcism, and that the couple frequently quarrelled. Police, however, said the motive for the alleged murder has not yet been established.
Adarsh police station SHO Surender Sandhu said Devi remained under treatment and would be questioned once her medical condition improves. Police will proceed with her arrest and interrogation accordingly, he said.
Investigators are examining both the circumstances of the killing and the disappearance of the liver and kidney. Police said the precise motive and sequence of events are expected to emerge after Devi is medically fit to be questioned.
