Kolkata Warehouse Collapse: BJP Mazdoor Cell seeks FIR against Firhad Hakim, 2 former councillors

The Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Cell (BJMC) has filed a police complaint seeking the registration of an FIR against former Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim and former councillors Anwar Khan and Shams Iqbal, alleging their role in permitting illegal constructions that allegedly led to recent warehouse and building collapses in the city.
The complaint was submitted at Taratala Police Station following the devastating warehouse collapse on Transport Depot Road in Taratala, which claimed 16 lives. The BJMC alleged that repeated structural collapses in the Kolkata Port area were the result of unauthorised construction, negligence and possible criminal conspiracy.
The organisation has demanded a detailed investigation into the role of the three leaders, identification of all those responsible for the alleged illegal constructions, and legal action against them. It also urged authorities to inspect similar unsafe structures in the area to prevent future accidents.

Kolkata Police confirmed receiving the complaint but clarified that no FIR has been registered yet. Officials said the allegations are being examined and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the warehouse collapse is underway. So far, five people linked to the construction work and Kalicharan Bandyopadhyay, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Firhad Hakim, have been arrested. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the West Bengal government is probing the incident.
