Kerala Toddler Death: Post-Mortem Reveals 91 Injuries, 7 Fractured Ribs in Brutal Assault Case

A post-mortem report in the Kerala toddler death case has revealed horrifying details, showing that the one-and-a-half-year-old child suffered 91 injuries, including seven fractured ribs, internal damage, and severe head trauma before his death.

The child, identified as Arshid from Panavoor in Nedumangad near Thiruvananthapuram, is believed to have been subjected to prolonged and brutal physical abuse by his mother’s live-in partner, Ashkar, according to police investigations.

Doctors reported extensive injuries across the body, including swelling and bleeding inside the skull and multiple signs of internal trauma. Investigators believe the rib fractures were caused when the accused allegedly stamped on the child’s chest, leading to fatal internal organ damage.

The post-mortem also recorded burn injuries on the child’s genitals and foot, allegedly inflicted using a cigarette lighter, pointing to repeated torture over time.

Police said the abuse reportedly continued for nearly a month, with the accused confessing to the crime and admitting he had planned the killing in advance. He allegedly tried to cover up the incident by claiming the child had fallen ill and choked on food.

Investigators have also revealed that the child’s mother was aware of the ongoing abuse but failed to intervene, and charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have been invoked against the accused.

The case remains under investigation, with authorities also probing possible prior violent behaviour by the accused in earlier relationships.
