Katra-Bound train coach cracks near Ludhiana

A sleeper coach of the Delhi Vaishno Devi Katra Special train developed a structural crack and partially separated shortly after departing Ludhiana railway station on Saturday, causing panic among passengers. No injuries were reported in the incident.
According to railway officials, the S-2 sleeper coach suffered a structural failure near the toilet section, causing a portion of the coach body to cave in. Toilet fixtures, including seats, reportedly fell onto the tracks as the damaged section gave way.
Passengers said they experienced a sudden and strong jolt as the train began moving, leading many to fear a derailment. Several passengers quickly exited the affected coach as railway authorities rushed to the scene.
Emergency teams evacuated passengers from the damaged coach and detached it from the train. A replacement coach was subsequently attached, allowing the train to continue its journey to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra with minimal delay.
Ludhiana Station Director Aditya confirmed that the train resumed service after necessary safety measures were completed. Railway officials have ordered a detailed inquiry to determine the exact cause of the structural failure.
Preliminary investigations by the Government Railway Police found no evidence of sabotage. Officials believe the incident was likely caused by a technical defect in the coach structure. Authorities noted that the consequences could have been far more serious had the failure occurred while the train was travelling at high speed.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of regular maintenance and safety inspections across the railway network, with investigators expected to submit a detailed report in the coming days.
