AAP seeks clarity from EC on process of adding Raghav Chadha's name to Delhi voter list
New Delhi, Sept 9 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday sought clarity from the Election Commission (EC) on the process through which Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha's name was added to the Delhi electoral roll, asking the poll panel to make public the relevant Form 6 and allow time for objections.
Addressing a press conference, AAP national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda said the poll panel should clarify when and where Chadha filed Form 6, the application used for new voter registration.
Dhanda referred to the Rajinder Nagar Assembly constituency records and claimed that Chadha's name does not figure in the Form 6 applications received between September 1 and 7.
"The Election Commission has stated that a voter can be added through Form 6, Form 7 or Form 8. If Chadha's name has been added through Form 6, the Election Commission should clarify when it was filed and where it is," Dhanda said.
He said Form 8, used for shifting a voter's residence, would not apply in this case, while Form 7 is used for objections to entries.
According to Dhanda, the EC said the draft electoral roll published on August 31 contained voters only up to serial number 746 in the constituency.
He questioned how Chadha's name could appear at serial number 747 when the final electoral roll has not yet been published.
"The final roll is scheduled to be published on November 4. The Election Commission should clarify how the 747th serial number has appeared before the final roll," Dhanda said.
He also referred to the period between August 31 and September 30 during which objections can be raised against applications for addition of names and said the same process should be followed in Chadha's case.
"If Chadha has filed Form 6 in Delhi, the Election Commission should make it public and give people an opportunity to file objections, as is done in the case of any ordinary citizen," he said.
Dhanda said the party had examined Form 6 applications received in the Rajinder Nagar constituency between September 1 and 7 and claimed Chadha's name was not among them.
He urged the Election Commission to clarify the procedure followed in adding the Rajya Sabha MP's name and make the relevant records available.
"If the process was followed as prescribed, the Election Commission should clarify when Chadha filed Form 6 and make the application public so that objections can be raised within the prescribed period," he added.
There was no immediate response available from ECI or Chadha.
