Karnataka man allegedly kills wife over affair suspicion in Belagavi

A 35-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by her husband while she was asleep in Karnataka's Belagavi district after he suspected her of having an extramarital affair, police said on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Shobha Pargunda Sarawad, worked as a cook at the Oujikar Math School in Katageri village. According to investigators, her husband, Pargunda Sarawad, allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon while she was asleep, killing her on the spot.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest that the accused had long suspected his wife's character, and the alleged murder may have been fuelled by those suspicions. Officials also stated that the accused was allegedly addicted to alcohol, which may have contributed to the incident. The exact motive is still under investigation.
The couple had been married for nearly 15 years and have two children. The incident has left the local community in shock.
Following the incident, police arrested the accused and registered a case. The murder weapon has been seized, and further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and gather additional evidence.
Police are also recording statements from family members and neighbours as part of the investigation. Authorities have not disclosed further details as the probe continues.
