Judge dies by suicide in Delhi’s Safdarjung area

A 30-year-old judge has died by suicide at his home in South Delhi’s Safdarjung area, officials said on Saturday. Preliminary inquiry said, the deceased — identified as Aman Kumar Sharma — is suspected to have died by hanging.
He was posted as secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in northeast Delhi at Karkardooma Court. His posting was also confirmed by the Karkardooma Bar Association.
Police said a PCR call was received at Safdarjung Enclave police station, where it was found that Aman Kumar Sharma, son of Prem Kumar Sharma, had died by suicide at his residence, U-4A, First Floor, Green Park Main. The call was made by his brother-in-law, Shivam.
A police team reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and initiated inquest proceedings. The body has been sent for postmortem, officials said, adding that further investigation is underway. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide.
“No foul play has been established so far. However, all angles are being examined as part of the inquest proceedings,” a senior police officer said.
According to official records, Sharma had joined the Delhi Judicial Services on 19 June 2021. A law graduate from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, he completed his BA LLB in 2018.
During his tenure, he dealt with a range of criminal and civil cases and served in different jurisdictions as a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) and civil judge.
With effect from 18 October 2025, Sharma had taken charge as the full-time secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in the North-East district at Karkardooma Courts. He is survived by two children — one of whom is less than nine months old — and his wife, who is also a judge.
Police said statements of concerned persons are being recorded, and relevant circumstances leading to the incident are being examined. Last month, a 26-year-old advocate practising at the Delhi High Court allegedly jumped to his death from the 15th-floor balcony of a hotel in New Delhi’s Connaught Place on Sunday evening.
Police said the deceased, a resident of Mahavir Enclave, also left behind a two-page suicide note in which he held nobody responsible for his death.
