PRAGATI 2026 enhances regional military cooperation in Meghalaya

The maiden edition of multinational joint military Exercise PRAGATI 2026, currently underway at Umroi, has entered an intensive operational phase with the participation of more than 400 military personnel from 12 friendly nations.
The exercise, which began on May 20, aims to enhance regional peace, security and defence cooperation through joint training and professional exchanges among participating armies. Conducted in the spirit of equality, friendship and mutual respect, the multinational engagement is providing a platform for troops to improve interoperability and share operational best practices in a challenging environment.
One of the key highlights of the exercise has been the formation of integrated mixed teams comprising personnel from all participating nations. These teams have been training together in semi-mountainous and jungle terrain over the past few days, carrying out specialised drills including rock craft, ambush and counter-ambush operations, slithering exercises, jungle lane shooting and bus intervention procedures.
To further sharpen combat skills and operational proficiency, sniper firing and AK-203 rifle shooting competitions have also been organised during the exercise. Officials said these activities are helping participants build confidence, improve tactical coordination and gain professional insights from one another.
Apart from combat-oriented training, Exercise PRAGATI 2026 has also placed emphasis on strengthening camaraderie among troops through sports and informal interactions. Military personnel from participating nations took part in basketball, volleyball and tug-of-war competitions, fostering teamwork, trust and stronger interpersonal ties.
Defence officials noted that the exercise reflects the collective commitment of regional partners to address common security challenges through cooperation, mutual learning and joint preparedness.
Exercise PRAGATI 2026 is expected to further deepen military-to-military relations and build enduring bonds among participating nations.
