Amit Shah Jalandhar rally: Bomb threat email targets schools, temple, court complex

Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally in Jalandhar on Wednesday, authorities received a bomb threat email mentioning the rally venue, schools, Shri Devi Talab Mandir and the court complex, officials said.
Police are technically analysing the email and attempting to trace its source. Security has been tightened at the rally site in Paragpur and around Devi Talab Mandir, which Shah is scheduled to visit before addressing the gathering.
The email reportedly also claimed that an improvised explosive device had been placed beneath the rally stage and referred to buses carrying people to the event. Authorities have not confirmed the presence of any explosives, and the claims in the email remain unverified.
Shah’s rally will mark the culmination of the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, which began on September 18 and covered all 117 Assembly constituencies across Punjab over about 4,000 km.
The fresh threat comes amid a series of bomb-threat emails received by schools and public institutions in Punjab and neighbouring areas in recent weeks. Several such threats have previously led to security checks and evacuations but were subsequently found to be hoaxes.
Fresh update: Security agencies have been placed on high alert in Jalandhar, with bomb-detection and dog squads conducting checks around the rally venue. The threat email was reportedly sent to multiple recipients and included specific timings for some of the alleged targets.
