Israel intensified its military campaign against Iran

Multiple explosions rocked Tehran on Sunday as Israel intensified its military campaign against Iran, a day after a joint US-Israeli strike reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The fresh assault signals a dramatic escalation in a conflict that is rapidly expanding beyond Iran’s borders.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was striking “targets that belong to the Iranian terror regime in the heart of Tehran.” The military added that the Israeli Air Force had conducted large-scale operations over the past 24 hours to establish aerial superiority and “pave the path to Tehran,” suggesting a sustained and coordinated air campaign.
According to the Associated Press, blasts were heard in northern parts of the capital, including areas near Iran’s police headquarters and the complex housing state television. Footage circulating online showed a powerful explosion sending a thick plume of smoke billowing into the sky from a high-rise structure, though the extent of casualties or damage remains unclear.
The renewed bombardment comes amid mounting regional tensions. Following confirmation of Khamenei’s death, Iranian officials vowed swift retaliation. Tehran subsequently launched a wave of missile strikes across the Middle East, with several projectiles reportedly targeting Gulf locations, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, as well as sites in Qatar and Bahrain that host US military facilities.
As air raid sirens and explosions echo across multiple capitals, fears are growing that the confrontation could spiral into a broader regional war, drawing in additional global powers and destabilising energy markets already on edge.
