India calls for practical BRICS synergy to tackle Global challenges: EAM Jaishankar

India on Thursday called on BRICS nations to work together through “practical ways” to deal with rising geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty and global trade disruptions.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar made the remarks while addressing a BRICS foreign ministers’ conclave in New Delhi attended by representatives from member countries including Iran, Russia and Brazil.
The India-hosted meeting comes amid growing concerns over the economic impact of the ongoing West Asia conflict, particularly disruptions in global energy supplies linked to the war involving the US, Israel and Iran.
“We meet at a time of considerable flux in international relations,” Jaishankar said in his opening remarks, adding that conflicts, trade challenges, climate issues and technological uncertainties were reshaping the global landscape.
The minister said there is increasing expectation from developing nations and emerging economies that BRICS should play a “constructive and stabilising role” during the current global crisis.
Jaishankar stressed the need for stronger cooperation among BRICS members on issues including energy, food, fertiliser and health security, as well as improving access to finance for developing countries.
He also highlighted the importance of economic resilience, saying reliable supply chains and diversified markets were essential to managing future disruptions.
“Recent conflicts only underline the importance of dialogue and diplomacy,” Jaishankar said, while also emphasising the need for greater cooperation against terrorism.
The BRICS grouping currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia. India is hosting the foreign ministers’ conclave ahead of the annual BRICS summit scheduled later this year.
