India backs truce

India on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire in West Asia, expressing hope that the development would pave the way for lasting peace while reiterating that dialogue and diplomacy remain essential to end the conflict.
In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “We welcome the ceasefire reached and hope that it will lead to a lasting peace in West Asia. As we have continuously advocated earlier, de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy are essential to bring an early end to the ongoing conflict.”
The government its consistent position of pursuing peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels and highlighted the wider global impact of the crisis. “We expect that unimpeded freedom of navigation and global flow of commerce would prevail through the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement noted.
Reaffirming its long-standing stance, India said it supports all efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability, and expressed hope that the ceasefire could also contribute to progress in other conflict zones, including Ukraine.
Meanwhile, India issued a fresh advisory urging its nationals in Iran to leave the country “expeditiously” in light of recent developments, even as a fragile two-week ceasefire between US, Israel and Iran comes into effect.
“There should be no attempt to approach any international land border without prior consultation and coordination with the Embassy,” it added, while also sharing emergency contact numbers and email support.
Despite the de-escalation, officials remain cautious given the volatile situation and uncertainty over the durability of the truce.
