Hunger forced Pakistani terror commander into death trap

Driven by intense hunger, a top Pakistani terrorist commander walked straight into a death trap set by a joint team of security forces, leading to his elimination during an encounter inside a residential house in Parhetar village of Billawar tehsil in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Friday.
Before neutralising the terrorist commander identified by Jammu and Kashmir police as Usman alias Abu Maviya, from a close range, the crack team of the commandos disarmed him by snatching his M4 rifle in a virtual hand-to-hand combat.
The operation lasted a few minutes as the terrorist commander was shot dead at close range by a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir police, Indian Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. Sharing operational details, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kathua range, Mohita Sharma said the swift operation was launched Friday afternoon, immediately after receiving human intelligence about his presence inside a home in the Parhetar village of Billawar tehsil. According to police, the JeM Commander arrived there to collect cooked food. When our team reached there, we noticed the JeM Commander had taken some civilians hostage inside the house. Sharma said, “We immediately moved our party there, and our CRPF and Army personnel were also with us, forming a cordon. Then, a small police party, setting a great example of bravery, first evacuated the civilians from there and then went straight into the house.
They snatched his weapon and shot him. It did come to a full-blown combat situation, and he fired first from inside. As soon as we entered, our party displayed exceptional bravery – the kind of bravery for which the JKP is famous throughout the country and the world – in snatching his weapon and shooting him. SSP Kathua claimed the JeM Commander had been active in the area since 2024. He was on the run for a long time. The security forces were chasing him to neutralise him. Sharma said, “After the encounter on the 7th January, when he escaped, our search operation continued in this entire forest area. During this operation, there was a major contact with him, and three hideouts were also busted.
On Friday, we received another specific input around 1 PM. It was from Parhetar village stating that he was in a house and had taken some civilians hostage.
SSP Mohita Sharma also claimed that JeM Commander carried out six terrorist attacks since 2024, in which civilians died, and our forces’ personnel have also sacrificed their lives. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, said, “This is a great achievement for the Kathua police.
The most important thing is that the people of our Bilawar area are becoming more alert, they are providing information, and this action was taken based on timely information.
The terrorist, named Usman, was killed in the operation. As I mentioned, the Jaish group, operating from Pakistan, is carrying out a lot of activities in our area, in Kathua and Samba.
Whether it’s drone activities or infiltration attempts, our coordination aims to thwart all such attempts by the enemy country.
