Forest officer from Keralam booked for 'misbehaving' with women passengers on train

A case has been registered against a forest officer for allegedly misbehaving with women passengers and making obscene gestures on a train in Kasaragod, police said.

The case was registered against Divisional Forest Officer Jose Mathew by Kasaragod Railway Police on August 22.

Mathew is working as DFO of Kasaragod.

According to police, Mathew, a native of Jose Giri, Cherupuzha, was travelling in the general compartment of the Okha Express from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod on August 22.

As per the FIR, he allegedly misbehaved with women passengers and made obscene gestures.

The passengers alerted the Railway Police and, when the train reached Kasaragod railway station in the early hours, police intercepted Mathew.

He was released after being served a notice and a case was registered against him under Section 119(a) of the Kerala Police Act for making sexual gestures or performing acts degrading the dignity of women at a public place.

Kasaragod Railway Police officials said an investigation has been launched and statements of witnesses are being recorded.

Mathew will be questioned as part of the investigation soon, officials said.
