Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara, Guwahati, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Union ministers and chief ministers from BJP-ruled states.
Along with Sarma, four legislators from the NDA alliance were also sworn in as ministers in the new Assam government.
Among those inducted into the cabinet were BJP leaders Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Atul Bora and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) MLA Charan Boro.
PM Modi arrived at the venue shortly before the swearing-in ceremony amid tight security arrangements. Several senior BJP leaders, alliance partners and dignitaries attended the event.
Earlier, family members of Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior party functionaries also reached the venue ahead of the ceremony.
The BJP-led NDA has returned to power in Assam for a third consecutive term following its victory in the recent Assembly elections. Sarma is expected to continue focusing on infrastructure development, welfare schemes and industrial growth in the state during his new tenure.
The swearing-in ceremony also witnessed the presence of BJP President Nitin Nabin, who earlier offered prayers at the Kamakhya Temple before attending the event.
