Ghaziabad psychiatrist dies after fall
A 40-year-old psychiatrist died on Sunday evening after reportedly falling from the fifth floor of her apartment in a high-rise in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh police said. The deceased has been identified as Dr Hemika Agrawal, a resident of Officers City-2 Society in the Raj Nagar Extension area, which falls under the Nandgram police station.
Police said they received information around 7.30 pm on Sunday that a woman had fallen from her fifth-floor apartment. Neighbours took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police have not found a suicide note so far. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Nandgram) Ziauddin Ahmad said officers arrived quickly after getting the call and started the legal process.
Dr Agrawal’s family said she had been struggling with emotional distress and depression since her divorce about a year and a half ago. Her father, Dr R Chandra, a respected psychiatrist in Ghaziabad, told the police about her medical history and how the separation affected her mental health. She was living alone in the apartment.
Dr Hemika specialised in treating depression, anxiety, and related conditions, and also offered psychotherapy and counselling. The case has received attention because, as her family shared, she faced the same challenges she helped her patients with.
Police investigation has not reached any conclusions. Statements from relatives and others are being recorded, and evidence from the scene continues to be scrutinised. Authorities are still investigating, and more updates will come after the post-mortem examination report is available and further evidence is reviewed.
