Fresh encounter breaks out between security forces, terrorists in J&K

A fresh encounter broke out between a joint team of security forces and terrorists in a remote forest area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
The gunfight erupted during an ongoing search operation launched in the area since Monday, following specific inputs about the presence of terrorists belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist outfit. At the same time, the security forces continue to hunt down a group of terrorists in the upper reaches of Kishtwar.
According to the Nagrota-based White Knight Corps, “during an intelligence-based Operation Kiya, the troops of CIF Delta, WhiteKnightCorps, @JmuKmrPolice, and CRPF established contact with the terrorists at around 4 pm today in the general area of Basantgarh”. The army’s White Knight Corps also claimed to prevent suspected JeM terrorists from fleeing the area; a cordon had been established in the forested area. At the time of filing the report, the firefight was going on. Additional troops were also rushed to the spot to plug the gaps in the outer cordon.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir from February 5. He is scheduled to chair a high-level security review meeting with the top brass of the various intelligence agencies and security forces.
The Union Home Minister is also likely to visit the forward areas along the international border of the Jammu frontier to take stock of the prevailing security situation and review modernisation of the barbed wire fencing to prevent infiltration bids from across the Pakistani side of the border. In the last leg of his three-day-long tour, the Union Home Minister is scheduled to visit Srinagar.
