Filling district-level gaps priority, Delhi BJP team in 2 months: Harsh Malhotra

A day after taking charge as president of the Delhi unit of the BJP, Harsh Malhotra on Friday said that gaps in the organisation at the district level will be filled as a priority. Malhota, who is also the MoS Road Transport and Corporate Affairs in the Narendra Modi Government, said that the new team of Delhi BJP will be formed in the next couple of months. “The teams in the districts will be formed in next 15-20 days, while the reorganisation of the state unit and appointment of office bearers will be completed in next two months,” said Malhotra.
The first assignment fallen on the shoulders of Malhotra, will be fortnight-long programmes in June, marking 12 years of the Modi Government at the Centre and BJP Government in Delhi. Immediately after taking charge on Thursday, he also held a meeting with party MPs, MLAs, councilors and district presidents to discuss preparations for the programmes.
Regarding preparations of MCD elections scheduled in November-December next year, the Delhi BJP President said that the party is always active on ground keeping interests of the people in centre and will surely achieve the desired results. He said that Centre, Delhi Government and BJP-ruled MCD is performing well in the national Capital and the reason people have been supporting them.
Malhotra said he was comfortable discharging the duties of state president as well. He is Lok Sabha MP from East Delhi. Those who have more workload, are given more work because they have capacity for it, he said and added time management was part of his schedule while working as Lok Sabha MP as well as a minister. “Party organisation is not just the president. Its teamwork and there are teams for everything. I am confident that I can balance both responsibilities,” he said about his role as a minister and Delhi BJP chief.
The newly elected Delhi BJP Chief also said that the party will work to support the efforts of its Government in Delhi, led by Chief Minister, to serve the people. He stressed that the coordination between the Government and the state unit has been good since day one.
The BJP is not a party that starts preparations for the elections at the last moment, Malhotra said regarding next year’s Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls. “Our teams are ready at the Mandal level, some necessary changes will be effected wherever needed. The important thing is that our Government in Delhi has done many development works, as there is no lack of funds,” he said.
The Union Minister also cited various road projects of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, in Delhi-NCR, including an elevated road upto Jewar. The elevated road will start from Saray Kale Khan to Sohna and from Faridabad to Jewar and the work is expected to be finished by December.
He also discussed a project to decongest Kalindi Kunj area and make the road signal-free with expenditure of Rs 650 crore. Three major roads in Delhi including Ashram to Badarpur, Mehrauli-Gurugram and Punjabi Bagh to Tikri border will be made signal free in future.
