Delhi-NCR braces for Furnace-Like heat as IMD Warns of Scorching Days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning for Delhi-NCR, predicting “furnace-like” conditions to persist over the coming days, with scorching temperatures, strong gusty winds, and dust storms likely to affect the region until Friday.
According to the latest forecast, the national capital and surrounding areas including Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad will continue to remain under severe heatwave conditions, with maximum temperatures expected to hover around 44°C to 45°C in several parts. The IMD has also indicated that there will be little to no significant relief from the intense heat during this period.
Officials said that dry and hot winds are expected to dominate daytime conditions, making outdoor movement extremely difficult, particularly during afternoon hours when heat intensity will peak. Night temperatures are also likely to remain unusually high, offering minimal relief to residents.
Alongside the heatwave, the IMD has warned of intermittent dust storms and gusty winds sweeping across Delhi-NCR. These weather disturbances are expected due to active western disturbances and hot surface winds blowing in from western Rajasthan.
While isolated thunderstorms may bring brief and localized relief in some areas, meteorologists have cautioned that such changes will be short-lived and will not significantly reduce the overall heat intensity gripping the region.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions, especially for children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
The current spell of extreme weather comes as Delhi continues to experience one of the hottest pre-monsoon phases in recent years, with temperatures consistently breaching seasonal averages.
