Delhi High Court upholds Rajpal Yadav's conviction in cheque bounce case, reduces jail term

The Delhi High Court on Friday upheld Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav's conviction in a cheque bounce case while reducing his jail sentence from six months to three months.
The court dismissed petitions filed by Yadav challenging his conviction under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which deals with cheque dishonour cases. However, it granted partial relief by reducing the sentence awarded by the trial court.
The case stems from financial liabilities linked to a loan taken for the production of Yadav's directorial debut film. Court proceedings over the matter have continued for several years, during which the actor sought time to settle the dues and had made partial payments. Settlement efforts, however, did not culminate in a final agreement.
The High Court upheld the trial court's finding that the offence of cheque dishonour had been established while modifying only the quantum of punishment. The ruling brings the long-running legal dispute closer to conclusion, although Yadav retains the option of pursuing further legal remedies before a higher court.
The actor has not issued an immediate public statement following the judgment.
