Delhi High Court refuses to reopen CBSE Revaluation Portal in class 12 OSM marking case

The Delhi High Court declined to issue directions for reopening the CBSE Class 12 revaluation portal amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the board’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.
Hearing a plea related to alleged irregularities in the OSM evaluation process, the court expressed concern that reopening the portal could delay the declaration of final results and affect college admissions for lakhs of students. The bench observed that extending the revaluation process at this stage could have wider implications for the academic future of students across the country.
The petition, filed by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), sought directions to reopen the verification and revaluation portal and allow manual rechecking and physical verification of answer sheets in cases where students alleged discrepancies in scanned copies and evaluation.
During the hearing, the Centre and CBSE argued that reopening the portal would impact nearly 17.8 lakh students who appeared for the Class 12 examinations and could disrupt undergraduate admission schedules. The board informed the court that more than 1.67 lakh students had already applied for revaluation and over 3.8 lakh answer sheets had been processed under the existing system.
The OSM system has come under scrutiny following complaints from students regarding blurred scans, missing pages, mismatched answer sheets and alleged evaluation errors. Earlier this week, the High Court had sought responses from the Centre and CBSE on the petition challenging the transparency and reliability of the digital evaluation process.
While refusing immediate relief, the court indicated that individual students with specific grievances could approach the appropriate authorities for redressal. The broader challenge to the OSM system remains under judicial consideration.
