Delhi HC seeks centre and CBSE response on NSUI petition over OSM marking system concerns

The Delhi High Court has sought responses from the Centre and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on a petition filed by the student wing of the Congress, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), raising concerns over alleged irregularities in the On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation system used for Class 12 board examinations.
The plea challenges the fairness and reliability of the digital evaluation process, alleging technical glitches, discrepancies in scanned answer sheets, and issues in the post-result verification mechanism.
The petition also seeks an independent inquiry into the OSM system, along with directions for manual rechecking and physical verification of answer sheets for affected students. It further demands that the verification and re-evaluation portal remain open for a longer duration to allow students adequate time to raise grievances.
The High Court has issued notices to both the Centre and CBSE, seeking their stand on the allegations and scheduled the matter for further hearing. The case comes amid wider scrutiny of the OSM system, which digitises evaluation by allowing examiners to assess scanned copies of answer sheets online.
According to the petition, a large number of students reported concerns such as blurred scans, missing pages, and inconsistencies in marking, raising questions about transparency and reliability in the evaluation process.
NSUI has argued that these issues reflect systemic deficiencies that could adversely impact students’ academic futures, including admissions and scholarship opportunities.
