Hyderabad Police detain polytechnic students protesting GO 97

Hyderabad: Police detained several polytechnic students during a protest against Government Order 97 at Raidurgam in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The students staged a road blockade near LIDCAP, demanding the withdrawal of the order and clarity from the Telangana government about their academic future. They oppose plans to bring polytechnic colleges under the Young India Skills University.
Police asked the protesters to disperse, but the students continued the demonstration. Videos posted on social media showed police personnel forcibly removing and dragging some protesters from the road.
Students alleged that police personnel struck some demonstrators while taking them into custody. They also accused the government of moving towards privatisation and said the proposed changes could leave their courses and qualifications uncertain.
The protesters said they would continue their agitation until the government withdrew GO 97 and gave them a clear assurance about the future of polytechnic education.
