Delhi crosses 50 lakh saplings mark; minister joins plantation drive in Vikaspuri
Delhi Health and Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh joined a plantation drive at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in Vikaspuri’s Kunwar Singh Nagar on Sunday, as the government’s green campaign crossed 50 lakh saplings planted toward its target of 70 lakh across the Capital.
Addressing residents at the event, Singh said the plantation drive was progressing rapidly with active citizen participation. He said the campaign was not just about the number of trees planted but about ensuring their survival through proper protection, watering and long-term care.
“Planting a tree is only the first step, our real responsibility begins with protecting it,” Singh said, appealing to citizens to partner in the mission by planting and caring for trees.
Singh linked the initiative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, urging residents to dedicate a tree to their mothers as part of the effort to build a greener and more sustainable Delhi.
He called on residents of Vikaspuri and other parts of the city to actively join plantation drives and treat tree protection as a shared community responsibility, saying every sapling nurtured today would contribute to a healthier environment for future generations.
Singh also appreciated the participation of local residents in the drive, saying such community-led initiatives strengthened the collective push toward making Delhi greener.
