Delhi Court allows cremation of Red Fort blast victims' remains, orders dignified disposal
A Delhi court permitted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to cremate or otherwise dispose of the mortal remains of 11 people killed in the Red Fort car bomb blast that occurred in November last year.
Special Judge Pitambar Dutt also granted permission for the disposal of the body parts of Dr Umer Un Nabi, the driver of the explosives-laden vehicle who died in the suicide blast.
The court directed that all biological remains be disposed of with full dignity while respecting the religious beliefs of the victims and sought a compliance report from the NIA after the process is completed.
The NIA informed the court that all required forensic examinations had been completed on the recovered remains and sought permission for their disposal, stating that the body parts had begun decomposing.
The agency had filed a 7,500-page chargesheet in the case on May 14, detailing the investigation into the high-intensity IED blast that struck the national capital on November 10, 2025.
Last month, the NIA also submitted a supplementary chargesheet against three more accused, including an absconding paediatrician alleged to be a founding member of the terror module behind the attack. With the latest filing, the total number of accused chargesheeted in the case has risen to 13, including the deceased suicide bomber.
