Delhi CM approves slum rehabilitation benefits, sets January 2025 cut-off date

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved rehabilitation benefits for eligible residents living in slum and JJ (Jhuggi-Jhopri) clusters, with January 1, 2025 fixed as the cut-off date for availing the scheme.
The decision is part of the Delhi government's new Slum and JJ Cluster Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, aimed at providing housing and rehabilitation support to lakhs of families residing in informal settlements across the national capital. The policy is expected to benefit nearly four lakh families.
Under the framework, residents meeting the eligibility criteria will be considered for rehabilitation and housing benefits. The policy follows the principle of improving living conditions while ensuring minimal displacement of slum dwellers through planned redevelopment and relocation initiatives.
Officials have stated that the revised policy expands eligibility and seeks to accelerate rehabilitation projects through a structured implementation process. The government is also focusing on providing essential civic amenities, including schools, healthcare facilities, anganwadi centres and community infrastructure in rehabilitation colonies.
The move comes as the Delhi government pushes ahead with large-scale housing and urban development initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for economically weaker sections and residents of JJ clusters.
