CPI(M) to introspect after LDF’s debacle in Kerala

Admitting to a “serious setback” in the recently concluded Assembly elections, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau on Tuesday announced that the party would undertake a comprehensive introspection to identify the reasons behind the defeat of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala.
In a statement issued following the election results, the party noted that the loss in Kerala after ten years of continuous rule was one of the two major features of this electoral cycle, the other being the BJP’s victory in West Bengal. The party also acknowledged the setback faced by the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, where Vijay’s TVK emerged as a significant political force.
“The LDF was defeated in Kerala after a decade of governance, during which it did its best for the welfare of the people despite financial constraints imposed by the BJP-led Union Government,” the Polit Bureau stated. The party assured its supporters that it would take all “necessary corrective measures” to regain public confidence.
Turning its focus to West Bengal, the CPI(M) attributed the BJP’s landslide to strong anti-incumbency against the “corrupt” TMC Government. However, it launched a scathing attack on the saffron party’s tactics, alleging that its victory was fuelled by a “communal, divisive, and vitriolic hate campaign,” alongside the misuse of Central agencies and the Election Commission of India.
The Left leadership expressed deep concern over the “ascendancy of right-wing communal forces” in Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry.
