Court orders FIR after DNA test reveals twin girls not biologically related to couple in Delhi IVF case

A Delhi court has ordered the registration of an FIR in a shocking IVF-related case after DNA tests revealed that twin girls born to a Delhi couple are not biologically related to either parent, raising serious allegations of embryo mix-up and document forgery at a fertility clinic.
The couple, Rahul and Meena Rathore, had approached SCI IVF Hospital in Greater Kailash in late 2024 after deciding to undergo in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment. Meenu gave birth to twin girls on January 5, 2026, but the couple soon grew suspicious after noticing that the children bore no resemblance to either parent.
DNA test reports obtained from independent agencies later confirmed that the twins were not genetically related to the couple and were also not biologically related to each other, suggesting the use of anonymous donor embryos.
The couple alleged that the fertility clinic forged consent forms and implanted donor embryos without proper informed consent. They claimed that their signatures were obtained under questionable circumstances while Meenu was under anesthesia, and further argued that the documents were not properly registered or notarised.
The hospital, however, denied wrongdoing, stating that the couple’s own genetic material was not viable and that they had signed consent forms permitting the use of anonymous donor embryos.
After initial police inaction, the couple approached the court, which directed authorities to register an FIR and conduct a detailed investigation. A magistrate observed that the case raised serious concerns, including possible forgery, statutory violations, and even the potential of child trafficking that required thorough examination.
A subsequent court order also directed the police to preserve all relevant medical records, CCTV footage, consent forms, and laboratory documents. The hospital’s plea to challenge the FIR direction was later dismissed, with the court noting irregularities in record-keeping and the possibility that the couple’s allegations could be valid.
The couple has expressed continued distress, stating they are still seeking clarity and accountability from authorities and the hospital. They have also emphasized that despite the ongoing legal battle, they continue to care for the twins while awaiting resolution of the case.
