CM Suvendu Adhikari says BJP will bring Tatas back to Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday claimed that a BJP-led government would bring the Tata Group back to the state, while sharply criticising the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the previous Left Front regime over their industrial policies.
Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Adhikari said the BJP government would focus on reviving West Bengal’s industrial growth and attracting large-scale investment to generate employment opportunities.
“We will bring back the Tatas in Bengal,” he said, referring to the Tata Motors small-car project in Singur, which was relocated to Gujarat in 2008 following a major land acquisition controversy.
He accused both the Left Front and the TMC of failing to deliver genuine industrial development in the state, alleging that earlier governments either pursued forced land acquisition or limited themselves to “photo sessions” without real progress.
Adhikari said the proposed BJP government would adopt a balanced approach to industrialisation, ensuring that development does not come at the cost of farmers’ rights. He added that a structured land acquisition policy is being worked on to avoid past controversies like Singur and Nandigram.
The BJP leader further asserted that West Bengal needs transparent governance and genuine investment-driven growth rather than symbolic announcements.
The Singur land agitation, which led to the relocation of Tata Motors’ Nano project, remains a landmark political event in the state’s history and played a significant role in the rise of the TMC to power in 2011, ending decades of Left rule.
