CBI takes over Twisha Sharma Death Case as SIT questions husband, new details emerge

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reached Bhopal to take over the investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma, following directions from the Supreme Court. The case was earlier being probed by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Bhopal Police.
As the central agency began its review, fresh details emerged from the SIT’s interrogation of Twisha’s husband and prime accused Samarth Singh.
During nearly three hours of questioning on Monday, Singh reportedly claimed that the model-turned-actor had been under “distress” following an abortion. He also reiterated his claim that he and his family had given her ₹7 lakh during their marriage.
Police sources said Singh was also questioned about his movements after Twisha’s death and allegedly attempted to mislead investigators regarding the period he remained absconding. His responses are being verified with call records, financial data, and location details.
Later in the day, the SIT took Samarth Singh to his residence in Bagmugalia Extension under Katara Hills police limits for a crime scene reconstruction. The exercise, which lasted over two hours, was videographed as part of the evidence collection process.
Officials said the investigation team has seized his laptop, mobile phone, passport, Aadhaar card, and other documents for forensic examination.
Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar stated that Samarth’s mother, former judge Giribala Singh, is also being questioned and may be called again for further interrogation. Authorities noted that she had been appearing in media interviews after securing anticipatory bail instead of fully cooperating with the probe.
The developments came shortly before the Supreme Court directed the CBI to formally take over the investigation and proceed expeditiously. During the hearing, the Madhya Pradesh government also alleged that the accused’s mother had been making public statements across television channels instead of cooperating with investigators.
The investigation is now expected to continue under the supervision of the CBI, with officials reviewing digital evidence, financial records, and witness statements.
