CBI arrests IPS officer on Central Deputation in Rs 3 crore bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested senior IPS officer Deepak Gahlawat, who was serving on central deputation with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), in connection with an alleged ₹3 crore bribery case.
According to the agency, Gahlawat allegedly demanded the bribe from a businessman by promising to influence an ongoing CBI investigation into a fake drug manufacturing racket in Puducherry.
The arrest follows an FIR registered by the CBI, which alleged that the officer conspired with intermediaries to seek illegal gratification in exchange for securing favourable treatment in the case. Searches conducted at Gahlawat's premises reportedly led to the seizure of digital devices and documents that are now being examined as part of the investigation.
The CBI said the probe is ongoing and further evidence is being collected to establish the full extent of the alleged conspiracy.
The arrest marks a significant development in the agency's anti-corruption efforts and underscores its commitment to taking action against public officials accused of abusing their positions for personal gain.
