Bihar cop suspended for allegedly brandishing pistol during flood relief distribution

The station house officer of Maker Police Station in Bihar's Saran district has been suspended for allegedly pointing a pistol at people affected by floods while relief materials were being distributed, an official statement said Sunday.
The suspension followed the circulation of a video of the incident on social media.
According to the statement, the incident prima facie amounted to "gross negligence of duty, indiscipline and arbitrariness".
"Maker SHO, Sangram Kumar Singh, has been suspended with immediate effect after a video purportedly showing him brandishing his pistol towards the public while distributing flood relief materials in the area went viral on social media," the Saran SSP's office said.
The statement added that Singh would receive a subsistence allowance according to rules during his suspension.
Flooding triggered by heavy rainfall in Nepal and adjoining areas during the last week of September has affected nearly 9.87 lakh people across 169 gram panchayats in 30 blocks spread over six districts of Bihar.
The affected districts are Saran, West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur. (with inputs from PTI)
