Bihar BJP MLA Raju Kumar Singh sentenced to 4 years in jail in 2018 celebratory firing death case

A Delhi court has sentenced Bihar BJP MLA Raju Kumar Singh to four years of simple imprisonment in connection with a 2018 celebratory firing incident that resulted in the death of a woman during a New Year's Eve party at his farmhouse in South Delhi's Fatehpur Beri. The court also imposed a fine of ₹25 lakh, directing that the amount be paid as compensation to the victim's family.
The case dates back to the night of December 31, 2018, when Singh allegedly fired his licensed weapon into the air during the celebrations. A bullet struck 45-year-old doctor Archana Gupta, who later died from her injuries.
Singh was convicted under Section 304 Part II of the Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and under the Arms Act for violating licence conditions.
While pronouncing the sentence, the court strongly criticised the glorification of gun culture, observing that society does not need "Singham or Pushpa" figures in a nation governed by the rule of law. The judge stressed that reckless use of firearms, particularly by public representatives, sends a dangerous message and must be dealt with firmly.
