Baruipur Rape-Murder: Key accused killed in police encounter during crime scene reconstruction

The primary suspect in the alleged sexual assault and killing of an 11-year-old girl in West Bengal's Baruipur died during a police operation while officers were recreating the sequence of events as part of the investigation.
According to police, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee custody after trying to seize an officer's service weapon. Police responded to the situation, and the suspect later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The case has drawn widespread public attention after the child's body was recovered a day after she was reported missing. Investigators arrested multiple suspects and registered charges under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act. Police said CCTV footage, forensic findings, and witness statements played an important role in identifying those allegedly involved.
The police operation has prompted public discussion, with some seeking greater clarity on the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have said that both the investigation into the child's death and the police action will proceed in accordance with legal procedures.
The case has renewed calls for stronger child protection measures, faster investigation of crimes against minors, and improved safety for women and children.
