Assam Wakfs Board marks Veer Baal Diwas, honours young heroes

The Assam Board of Wakfs, under the Minority Welfare and Development Department of the Assam Government, hosted an inspiring event to commemorate Veer Baal Diwas 2025 at Sonapur High School in Dimoria on Friday, December 26. This annual observance, dedicated to honoring the courage and sacrifices of young heroes in India’s history, aimed to inspire national pride and historical awareness among students and the community.
The full-day program kicked off at 10 AM with a lively procession featuring students, teachers and staff marching together in celebration. Following the march, engaging co-curricular activities took center stage, including poetry recitations, traditional dances and art competitions-all centered on themes of valor and bravery.
Highlights from Veer Baal Diwas Assembly
A formal assembly was led by Headmaster Pabitra Kalita, where Inspector Jannatun Naiyum from the Assam Board of Wakfs emphasized the significance of December 26 as Veer Baal Diwas. She described it as a nationwide tribute to the unyielding spirit of India’s child heroes, ensuring their stories continue to motivate future generations.
The event drew notable participation from Assam Board of Wakfs officials like Ikramul Hussain and Riyazul Islam Rahul, along with senior educators such as Amir Uddin Chowdhury, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, Raktim Deka and Sanjay Dutta.
Educational focus on historical bravery
A highlight of Veer Baal Diwas 2025 celebrations in Assam was an in-depth discussion on the martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the young sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Headmaster Kalita shared a compelling narrative of their steadfast commitment to justice, faith and values amid adversity.
Senior teacher Sumana Sharma expanded on the cultural impact, noting how their sacrifice safeguards India’s diverse religious and cultural heritage, serving as a timeless lesson in integrity for today’s youth. The Sonapur event wrapped up with a pledge to organise more such programs, fostering a deeper appreciation for India’s resilient shared history.
Veer Baal Diwas 2025 in Assam not only celebrated past heroes but also spotlighted emerging talents, making it a memorable day for promoting child bravery and national unity in the northeast region of the nation.
