Army, Delhi Police destroy arms seized from Manipur

On Wednesday, the Indian Army, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police and the Forensic Science Laboratory carried out a controlled demolition of rocket launchers and other explosive material, connected to two suspects who had been arrested in Manipur, in the Tikri area of Narela, in the northern part of the Capital.
The recovered weapons were brought to Delhi for a detailed forensic check before being destroyed. The shipment included rocket launchers, rifles, hundreds of live bullets, detonators, and other explosive parts. Specialised teams handled the operation under tight security.
While the names and exact group ties of the two arrested suspects have not been shared, the large amount of weapons seized suggests they were not just ordinary fighters. Finding detonators and lots of live ammunition points to plans for coordinated attacks, not just single incidents.
Confiscated arms and explosives usually follow a strict process: they are seized, examined, documented, and then officially destroyed to keep evidence safe and make sure the weapons are fully neutralised. Narela was chosen for disposal because its open area made it secure, and security barriers were set up to prevent unauthorized access or accidents.
The two arrested suspects from Manipur are believed to be linked to groups that have long tried to get advanced weapons. Rocket launchers are especially dangerous because they are portable, powerful, and can target both security forces and civilian sites.
The Army provided technical expertise in handling explosives, the Special Cell managed the investigation and local operations, and the FSL staff ensured all scientific steps were followed.
There have been numerous instances in Manipur of banned groups being linked to the recovery of weapons, ammunition and homemade explosives.
The overall situation remains worrying. A senior Delhi Police official said that as the controlled explosions and destruction ended in Narela, this event shows that fighting terrorism is not just about making arrests. It is also about permanently removing the tools of violence.
