Air India AI-171 Crash Anniversary: One year later, families still await answers and closure

A year has passed since the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI-171 near Ahmedabad, but the pain of the disaster continues to haunt the families of victims and survivors. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12, 2025, claiming 260 lives, including 241 passengers and crew members and 19 people on the ground. Only one passenger survived the devastating accident.
On the first anniversary of the tragedy, relatives gathered at the crash site to pay tribute to their loved ones. Families continue to seek closure as the final investigation report remains pending. Questions surrounding possible technical failures, pilot actions and other factors remain unresolved, prolonging uncertainty for those affected.
The crash site, including parts of a medical college hostel struck by the aircraft, still bears visible scars of the disaster. Authorities have announced redevelopment plans for the affected area, while Air India says it has disbursed interim compensation to most victim families. However, many relatives continue to demand complete transparency and accountability as they wait for the final findings into one of India's deadliest aviation disasters.
