Actor-Politician Koel Mallick resigns from Rajya Sabha, another blow to TMC

Actor-turned-politician Koel Mallick has resigned as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, marking another setback for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) amid a series of recent departures from the party.
According to reports, Mallick submitted her resignation to Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar's successor, C.P. Radhakrishnan, though the reasons behind her decision have not been officially disclosed.
Mallick was elected to the Rajya Sabha earlier this year as one of TMC's nominees from West Bengal. Her resignation comes at a time when the Mamata Banerjee-led party has been dealing with multiple resignations and defections by MPs and legislators, adding to its organisational challenges ahead of key political battles.
Neither Mallick nor the TMC has issued a detailed public statement explaining the move. Political observers believe the resignation could further fuel speculation about internal developments within the party. With another Rajya Sabha seat now falling vacant, attention is likely to shift to who the TMC nominates as her replacement and what the resignation means for the party's parliamentary strength.
