5 Killed, 3 injured after tree falls on E-Rickshaw during storm in UP’s Firozabad

At least five people were killed and three others injured after a neem tree collapsed on an e-rickshaw during a storm in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district on Monday evening, police said.
The accident took place around 8:30 pm near Chidrai village under the Fariha police station area in Jasrana tehsil. The e-rickshaw, carrying eight passengers, was travelling from Awagarh in Etah district towards Fariha when strong winds caused a large roadside neem tree to fall directly onto the vehicle.
According to District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Sharma, the e-rickshaw was completely crushed under the weight of the tree, trapping all the occupants inside. Police, fire brigade personnel and local villagers rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident.
Rescue teams used a JCB machine to remove the fallen tree and pull out the passengers. The injured were shifted to the government trauma centre by ambulance, but five of the victims succumbed to their injuries before reaching the hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Gajendra (28), Haresh Pal (59), Vishnu (20), Aman (17) and Ganga Singh (65). The three injured passengers are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
Officials said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. The incident also led to a major traffic jam on the route before authorities cleared the road.
Police have begun further proceedings and are assessing the circumstances surrounding the accident caused by the sudden storm.
