Haryana State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh on Thursday said that the voting for the elections to seven Municipal Corporations, four Municipal Councils and 21 Municipalities in the State will be held on March 2. Also, voting for by-elections for the post of Mayor in two Municipal Corporations, President in one Municipal Council, President in two Municipalities and Ward Member in the wards of three Municipal Councils will also be held on March 2. Apart from this, the date of voting for the election of Mayor and members of all wards in Municipal Corporation-Panipat will be March 9, he added.
The State Election Commissioner said for the election of Mayor and ward members in 7 Municipal Corporations (Faridabad, Gurugram, Manesar, Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak and Yamunanagar), two separate Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be installed at each polling centre.
He said in the by-elections for the post of Mayor in two Municipal Corporations (Ambala and Sonipat), for the post of President in one Municipal Council (Sohna), for the post of President in 2 Municipalities (Asandh and Imamabad) and for the post of ward members in the wards of 3 Municipalities (Safidon, Taraori and Ladwa), voting will be conducted through only one EVM machine in each polling centre.
Singh appealed to citizens to vote in large numbers in the urban local body elections to be held on March 2. Only those people will be able to exercise their voting rights whose name is included in the voter list of the concerned Municipal Corporation/ Municipal Council or Municipality.
He said if the voters do not have a voter card, they can also vote by showing alternative identity cards. Such voters can cast their vote by showing their passport, driving licence, PAN card and others.
