In a significant step toward water conservation and sustainability, Young Indians (Yi) Jamshedpur, in collaboration with Ramkrishna Forging Limited (RKFL), successfully created and inaugurated five new ponds in the Koilabera area. Each pond, with a capacity of 10,000 cubic feet, can store 2.8 lakh liters of water, collectively enabling a total storage capacity of 14 lakh liters.
The initiative is a part of Yi Jamshedpur’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability under its Climate Change Vertical, aimed at water resource management and community welfare. These newly developed water bodies will serve as critical reservoirs, supporting local water needs, groundwater recharge, and agricultural activities.
With this addition, Yi Jamshedpur has now successfully created a total of 20 ponds in nearby villages, reaffirming its dedication to water conservation. The chapter further pledges to continue expanding this initiative, ensuring sustainable water solutions for more communities in need.
The inauguration event saw the esteemed presence of Krishna Nand Deo (Manager - Legal, RKFL) and Sanjay Kumar (EHS Head, RKFL), who reiterated RKFL’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and environmental stewardship. Representing Yi Jamshedpur, Koushik Modi (Chair, Yi Jamshedpur) and Akshay Agarwal (Chair, Climate Change, Yi Jamshedpur), along with Anshul Ringasia, Harsh Kedia, Sneha Gandhi, Pratik Agarwal, Sourav Mittal, and Ujjawal Mahato, actively participated in the event, emphasizing the importance of water conservation and sustainable development.
Speaking on the occasion, Akshay Agarwal, Chair of the Climate Change Vertical at Yi Jamshedpur, stated, “Water conservation is a pressing need, and through such initiatives, we aim to create long-term solutions for sustainable water management. These ponds will not only benefit the local communities but also contribute to recharging groundwater levels.”
Koushik Modi, Chair of Yi Jamshedpur, added, “We are proud to lead initiatives that bring meaningful change to society. Collaborations like these, with RKFL’s unwavering support, strengthen our mission to address critical environmental challenges.”
This initiative aligns with Yi Jamshedpur’s broader agenda of climate action, which includes Miyawaki afforestation, e-waste collection drives, and rural water conservation projects. Yi Jamshedpur continues to engage with corporate partners, local communities, and environmental stakeholders to drive impactful, scalable solutions for a sustainable future.
