The Delhi BJP on Friday claimed that during the COVID crisis when Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged finding opportunities for service, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal found opportunities for profit and corruption, alleging a property transaction scandal involving his associate Gopal Mohan.
Addressing a press conference, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva claimed that until now, Kejriwal has evaded answering questions about constructing his ‘Sheeshmahal’ during the COVID period and the liquor policy scandal.
“Now, a new property transaction scandal involving his associate Gopal Mohan has surfaced.
Those familiar with Arvind Kejriwal know his aide Gopal Mohan, who assists in managing his New Delhi constituency. In 2020–21, Kejriwal not only increased his earnings but also facilitated financial gains for his close aides. To prevent scrutiny of his own accounts, he utilized his associate’s resources,” he alleged.
“During the peak of the COVID period on July 16, 2021, Gopal Mohan bought a flat at 32 Aradhana Enclave, Sector 13, R.K. Puram, for Rs 2.44 crore in the name of his mother, Veena Kumari, wife of R.S. Thareja. The witness column in the registry bears the signatures of a certain Manish Bhatia and Gopal Mohan himself,” he added.
Sachdeva stated that the New Delhi Assembly office operates from 87 B.K. Dutt Colony, Jorbagh, New Delhi, and Gopal Mohan, along with his mother, has Aadhaar cards and bank accounts registered at this address.
He questioned how Gopal Mohan acquired such wealth during an economic crisis and how the costly flat was bought at a surprisingly low price during the COVID period. He also pointed out that under Kejriwal’s influence, authorities expedited approval for additional construction on the flat overnight.
“This allowed Gopal Mohan to add another floor and earn crores in profits. The Aadhaar cards of Gopal Mohan and his mother are linked to the AAP office in New Delhi to ensure all transaction documents remain in Arvind Kejriwal’s custody,” he claimed.
Demanding answers, the Delhi BJP President asked, “How did someone from a modest background like Gopal Mohan afford to buy property in such an upscale area?”
